Buran Ghati Trek
4,572m
16,850 INR
There are trails that unfold gently, and there are trails that reveal themselves like a story told in whispers. The Buran Ghati Trek belongs to the latter — a passage through Himachal Pradesh where forests murmur, alpine meadows stretch like green oceans, and a silent pass at 4,572 meters stands as both guardian and gateway.
It begins in the quiet village of Janglik (2,804 m), where wooden houses lean into the hillside and apple orchards perfume the air. Here, the mountains do not yet appear fierce. They rise softly, layered in pine and oak, inviting rather than intimidating. The first steps are taken beneath cathedral-like forests, where sunlight filters through branches and the earth smells of resin and rain.
As one ascends, the world widens. The forest loosens its grip and gives way to vast rolling grasslands — the famed Dayara meadows (3,375 m) — where shepherds graze their flocks and clouds cast wandering shadows across emerald slopes. Time seems to slow here. The wind carries both silence and song.
But Buran Ghati is a tale of transformation.
Beyond the meadows, the terrain sharpens. Glacial streams carve through rock. The sacred Chandranahan Lake (4,020 m) lies hidden like a secret of the gods, its waters believed to birth the Pabbar River. The air thins. The sky grows closer. And the mountains, once gentle, begin to reveal their stern character.
The final ascent to Buran Ghati Pass (4,550 m) is not merely physical — it is elemental. Snowfields gleam beneath a pale sun. Ice crunches underfoot. At the summit, two worlds divide: behind lies the lush green cradle of Pabbar Valley; ahead, the stark, dramatic landscape of Kinnaur opens in raw magnificence.
Standing there, one understands that this is more than a crossing of geography. It is a crossing of contrasts — forest to glacier, meadow to moraine, comfort to challenge. And then comes the descent — steep, thrilling, unforgettable — as though the mountains, having tested your resolve, now release you into a different realm.
Buran Ghati is not just a trek measured in kilometers. It is a journey measured in changing horizons, in shifting landscapes, and in the quiet expansion of the human spirit.
"It begins with a village path.
It ends with a story etched into memory."
