The Goecha La Trek is a multi-day trek in the Indian state of Sikkim, known for its spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga mountain range, including Kabru dome, Pandim, Rathong and Goecha peak.

The highest point of the trek is the Goecha La Pass, which stands at an altitude of approximately 4,940 meters. Altough we have access till 4,602 meters.

The trek usually starts from the town of Yuksom, which is accessible from the nearby city of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. It typically takes around 8 to 10 days to complete depending on the route chosen and the pace of the trekking group.

The trekking route traverses through diverse terrains, including lush forests, rhododendron groves, alpine meadows, and rocky moraines. Trekkers encounter steep ascents and descents, as well as sections with loose rocks and boulders.Accommodation during the trek is usually in tents at designated camping sites along the trail. Camping gears will be provided so you can stay comfortably.

The trek offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of the Kanchenjunga range, as well as other prominent Himalayan peaks. Trekkers also pass by picturesque lakes, glaciers, and waterfalls along the route.We have our own guides to ensure our safety and helps to navigate the trail effectively. Since the Goecha La trek falls within the Kanchenjunga National Park, permits from Forest Department will be issued.

The Goecha La Trek is considered moderately to highly challenging, requiring a good level of fitness and stamina. Trekkers should be prepared for long days of walking and be comfortable with camping in remote wild areas.

Acclimatization is crucial due to the high altitude, and trekkers need to be aware of symptoms of altitude sickness.

DAY 1

NJP to Yuksom

Drive Distance: 150km | Drive Duration: 8 hours | Altitude: 1,740m

We will stat our journey from NJP to Yuksom. We'll enjoy stunning views of the Himalayan Ranges and the Teesta River. Don't forget to stop at Legship, the last ATM point, before continuing to Yuksom. Located in West Sikkim, Yuksom was once the capital and serves as the gateway to Mt. Kanchenjunga, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state. You'll have the opportunity to explore local traditions and community life.

DAY 2

Yuksom to Sachen

Trek Distance: 8-9km | Trek Duration: 6 hours | Altitude: 2,400m

Start from Yuksom, the basecamp of the trek, and walk towards Sachen. As we begin our trek, mud houses will slowly fade from view as we immerse ourselves in nature. We'll cross the serene Rathong River and navigate lush environments, passing through dense forests and three ancient bridges. The trail meanders through valleys, pristine rivers, and the stunning shushay Khola waterfalls, with occasional glimpses of sunlight breaking through the trees. After a exhausting day of trekking we will stay in the tents at Sachen.

DAY 3

Sachen to Tshoka

Trek Distance: 7km I Trek Duration: 5 hours | Altitude: 3,000m

Trek from Sachen to your next campsite, Tshoka via Bakhim.

En route, you will cross the Prek Chu River and trek uphill to reach Bakhim. A further trek upwards, we will arrive at Tshoka, a refugee Tibetan settlement, where we will stay overnight at camps. The trek to Tshoka involves crossing a bridge across the Prek Chu River, followed by another dense forest of Rhododendron and Oak, which is in full bloom during spring and summer and during autumn and winter. Tshoka is home to a monastery, which also holds some beautiful mountain views of Kanchenjunga and Pandim. There are some flat plains in Tshoka, where camps can be set. A wonderful camping location, surrounded by snow-covered mountains. Bathe in the serenity and rest for the trek the next day.

DAY 4

Tshoka to Dzongri via Phedang

Trek Distance: 9-10km | Trek Duration: 8 hours | Altitude: 3,950m

This trek offers stunning scenery, particularly on the way to Phedang, where we'll stop for lunch. Afterward, we'll head to Dzongri, known for its breathtaking sunrise views of Mt. Kanchenjunga. As we trek, watch your footing on the rocky path lined with blooming Rhododendrons. At Phedang, you'll find prayer flags and a perfect spot to rest before continuing. The climb to Dzongri is steep, so be mindful of altitude sickness symptoms like nausea and headaches. These typically resolve upon arrival, but consult your trek coordinator if they persist.

Dress warmly for the strong winds and chilly nights, and make sure to get plenty of rest.

DAY 5

Rest day & Trek to Dzongri top

Trek Distance: 2km I Trek Duration: 1 hour | Altitude: 4,150m

Today is a rest day, perfect for relaxing and taking short acclimatization walks. After the challenging day before and the sharp altitude gain, your body needs time to adjust. The view from Dzongri is breathtaking, with picturesque landscapes and snow-clad mountains that will rejuvenate you. You'll also see many Tibetan prayer flags gently fluttering in the breeze.

DAY 6

Dzongri to Thansing via Kokchurang

Trek Distance: 10km l Trek Duration: 7 hours | Altitude: 3,900m

Trek from Dzongi to via Kokchurang.Descend to Kokchurang and cross the Prek Chu River. Trek through meadows and reach Thansing, a beautiful campsite.Overnight stay in tents at Thansing.

DAY 7

Thansing to Lamuney

Trek Distance: 4km I Trek Duration: 3 hours I Altitude: 4,150m

Today, we will trek from Thangsing to Lamuney, the easiest day of our journey. The scenic meadows and pastures will lead us to the campsite. While the trail is generally simple, the final section is steep and rocky, which may pose some challenges.

Upon reaching Lamuney, we'll enjoy a hot lunch in a serene setting with beautiful mountain views.

DAY 8

Lamuney to Goecha La Pass & back to Thansing/Kokchurong

Trek Distance: 15km | Trek Duration: 10-11 hours | Altitude: 4,602m

Early morning start for the trek to Goecha La, the highest point of the trek.We'll start with an uphill climb through moraines, then descend to Samiti Lake. Most of this trek will be done at night, so don't forget your head torch. The trail to Samiti Lake takes about an hour, followed by a steep ascent to Goechala View Point. We'll reach the viewpoint by sunrise, where you can admire the stunning views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and other distant peaks. After enjoying the sunrise, we'll descend to Lamuney for a hot lunch. Depending on the weather, we may trek down to Thangshing or Kokcharang before settling in for the night tents.

DAY 9

Thansing/Kokchurong to Tshoka via Phedang

Trek Distance: 16km l Trek Duration: 7 hours I Altitude: 3,000m

Trekking from Thangshing to Tshoka covers approximately 16 km and takes about 7 hours. The path can be steep, especially in winter when some sections may be frozen. In spring, you'll enjoy beautiful Rhododendron blooms along the trail. Upon arriving in Tshoka, you'll set up your overnight camp amidst vibrant forests and scenic views, including glimpses of Mt.

Pandim. A short break at Phedang for lunch will rejuvenate you before descending back to Tshoka, which is about 5 km away.

You'll rest early at shoka to prepare for the long trek back the next day.

DAY 10

Tshoka to Yuksom via Bakhim

Trek Distance: 15-16Km | Trek Duration: 8 hours | Altitude: 1,740m

The trek from Tshoka to Yuksom is about 15 km and typically takes 7 to 8 hours. We'll start early with a packed lunch. The scenic trail, which follows our descent route from Yuksom to Tshoka, features no steep turns, making it enjoyable. Today we will be crossing the Prek Chu River and descend through the forests to reach Yuksom, where the trek ends. We'll pass through Bakhim and Sachen before crossing three iron bridges. From Sachen, the path zig-zags with gradual ascents and descents. The final stretch involves a short climb up a hillock, which can be tiring, but it's just a few meters. Upon reaching Yuksom, you'll regain cell service to contact loved ones.After the trek, you can relax in guest houses, enjoy a shower, have a hearty dinner, and get a good night's rest.

DAY 11

Yuksom to NJP

Drive Distance: 150km | Drive Duration: 8 hours | Altitude: 114m

Today marks the last day of our expedition as we drive back from Yuksom to NJP. The 150 km journey will take about 8 to 9 hours, depending on traffic, with arrival expected by late evening.

We'll follow the scenic route alongside the Teesta River. Once in NJP, consider booking an overnight stay, and if time allows, explore the local Hong Kong and Bidhan markets for handicrafts and local cuisine. Plan your onward journey according to your schedule.

COST INCLUSIONS
  • Trek leaders, Guides, cook, camp helpers and horses/porters as required.

  • Taxes, permit fees, and other charges imposed by local authorities, national parks etc.

  • Camping Tents/Trekking Hut will be arranged.

  • Safety equipment –First Aid kit stretcher, pulse oximeter, portable oxygen cylinder(where required for use of emergency service).

  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) on all trek days for the trek duration from Yuksom till the end of the trek at Yuksom.

COST EXCLUSIONS

  • Transport cost to reach Yuksom.

  • Meals, snacks, mineral water, telephone, tips and other incidental expenses during travel between NJP to Srikhola.

  • Cost of doctors, medical officers, and trek leaders are trained in first–aid to assist in case of medical emergencies.

  • Emergency evacuation costs owing to medical emergencies or weather conditions.

  • Trekkers are expected to carry their rucksacks, those intending to trek without rucksacks or carry only a day pack and offloading their backpacks onto horses/porters will have to bear an additional cost (depends on the weight).

Inclusions & Exclusions

  • We realize that cancellation of any trek is not desired from both our and trekker’s side. We always look forward in providing an unforgettable experience of trekking or hiking in the mountains. However, if due to any unavoidable situation the trek gets canceled or any trekker compels to cancel the trek, we have certain flexible cancellation and rescheduling policies for our trekkers.

  • If a trek is cancelled at the last minute due to a natural disaster or unforeseeable circumstances (such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, any kind of natural calamity, wildlife movement, pandemic, lockdown, public protests, bandhs, local riots, political movement etc.), ‘Musaafiran’ will have a trek voucher for the full number. The voucher can be used for the same or a different trek over the next year.

  • ‘Musaafiran’ assumes no responsibility for any malfunction or injury to your clothes, supplies, or other belongings while on the trek. The trek fee covers all expenses associated with the trek from start to finish.

  • After starting the trek if any trekker wishes to discontinue the trek due to any medical emergencies or any other reason, there will be no refund. Trekker will have to come back on his/her own expenses.

  • Before every Trek, we share fitness routines, guidance on workouts, help with food habits etc. We take updates on the fitness routine every week from the Trekkers. But, if the Trekkers don’t update us about their fitness plans properly, we won't allow them to participate in the Trek. Getting wasted on the Trails due to lack of proper fitness create problems for other group members. So, if we feel that you aren’t fit for the trek or don’t match the requirements, we may have to cancel your Journey. In that case, our Standard Cancellation Policy will apply for the same.

  • During our Trek period, our Trek Leader/ Trek Guide will observe everyone carefully. So, it is advised that any person who is disrespectful, misbehaving, arrogant, bad attitude, is harmful towards the Trek Leader/ Trek Guide/ Cook/ Porter/ Local People/ Other Group Member, we will cancel His/Her Trek and send them back down. Also, it’s not advised to disturb/destroy the wildlife environment throughout the Trek.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

Who can Participate ?

Basic Requirement
  • Minmum age should be 15 years.

  • Experience any high altitude trek, at least 1 trek of 3,000m/9,842ft.

  • The climber must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance in 40 minutes without stress.

  • The climber should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack.

Health Issues
  • The pulse rate at rest must be between (60 to 90 beats per minute).

  • Blood Pressure Reading must be in between (DIASTOLIC 75 – 85, SYSTOLIC 100 - 130 mm Hg).

  • The respiratory rate at rest must be between (12 to 20 breaths per minute)

  • Should not have Liver and kidney issues.

  • Should not have Diabetes Mellitus, Bronchial Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart problems, Very High blood pressure etc.

  • No pacemaker implant.

  • If your BMI is not normal, Please contact our Trek coordinator before Trek booking.
